About Distinct Digital Marketing | AI Systems Studio in Sexsmith, Alberta

About the studio

Built for the owner who's too small for enterprise software and too buried to build anything themselves.

Distinct Digital Marketing is an AI systems studio in Sexsmith, Alberta. One operator, working directly with owners whose businesses still run through them.

Why this exists

Two bad options, and most owners are stuck between them.

A tool you have to learn and run isn't freedom. It's another job.

The platforms built to organize a business are built for companies with fifty employees. They run $200 to $500 a month, take weeks to set up, and get abandoned somewhere after the trial ends.

Meanwhile the owner who needs the help most is running the business off a phone and a handful of apps, with no time to sit down and build anything, because building competes with the work that pays.

So the software gets bought and quietly stops being used, and the owner concludes the problem is them. It isn't. The tools were never built for a business this size.

Distinct Digital Marketing builds the other thing. Systems shaped around how one specific business already runs, handed over with the training to run them, owned outright rather than rented forever.

How the work goes

Voice first. Systems second. Refine to taste.

The order matters more than the tools. Most automation gets bolted together first and voiced later, if at all, which is why so much of it produces output the owner rewrites.

01

Train the voice

Before anything is built, we capture how the owner sounds. Not a tone-of-words document. A trained voice the system writes from, so what comes back reads like they wrote it instead of arriving as homework to fix.

02

Build around the real workflow

Not the workflow on the org chart. The real order of operations, from first contact to finished job, including the parts nobody ever wrote down. The system is shaped to that, not the other way around.

03

Refine until it runs clean

Then it gets tuned with the owner until it works without supervision, and they're taught to run it. The project closes with them self-sufficient. That's the finish line, not an upsell.

Every build gets one test before it's worth doing: one input should cascade into several finished outputs. If it doesn't hand the owner time back, it doesn't get built.

Who runs it
Virginia Purnell, founder of Distinct Digital Marketing

Virginia Purnell

Founder · Sexsmith, Alberta

She isn't selling this from the mountain. She's in the weeds this week.

Virginia keeps the books for an oilfield welding subcontractor. She runs the books and the daily operations for a local non-profit gymnastics club. She's president of the local minor soccer association. She does Distinct Digital Marketing's own books on top of all of it.

That's the credential that matters here. The repetitive admin this studio automates is work she is personally doing at month-end, for somebody else's business, while building this one.

Before DDM she spent twelve years working in offices. She holds a diploma in administrative technologies and bookkeeping levels 1 and 2. She speaks cash flow and daily operations natively, not as a marketing person who read about them.

"I built this because I needed it too" is the whole pitch, and it happens to be true.

What changed

This studio used to build funnels. It doesn't anymore.

The market answered. That was an offer problem, not a craft problem.

Distinct Digital Marketing opened in 2018 building funnels, websites and marketing systems for small businesses. Certified in ClickFunnels, Funnel Gorgeous and Funnelytics. That work was real and some of it is still online.

It's named here because you'll find traces of it, and a business that quietly buries its own history is worth less trust than one that names it.

What carried forward is the part that was always the actual skill: figuring out how a specific business runs and building something around it that the owner can operate without help. What got dropped was an offer the market had stopped wanting.

Visibility still happens. It just isn't the product anymore. Once the voice is trained and the systems are running, the content that gets a business seen is a result of the work rather than a second thing to buy.

The lines that don't move

What this studio won't do

Shorter list than what it will, and more useful for deciding whether to book a call.

  • Replace your peopleThe AI does the repetitive part. A human makes every decision that matters. A build that needs judgment handed to software is a build we talk you out of.
  • Sell you a retainer that never endsThe goal is handing repetitive work off permanently, not holding a task hostage so the invoices keep going out. You own what gets built.
  • Automate the sensitive things firstOwners are rightly wary of software touching their billing or their customers. We start with the safe, obvious wins and earn the right to anything deeper.
  • Promise revenue, growth or overnight resultsWe build the system. What the business does with the time it gets back is the business's own work.
  • Call it set-and-forgetIt's human-driven. You stay in the chair, you review, you decide. That's a feature of the design, not a limitation of it.
  • Take on work we can't do properlyOne operator, real capacity limits, and no promises of a team that doesn't exist.
If a system doesn't hand the owner back time and stand on its own, it shouldn't have been built.
Who this is for

Owner-led service businesses where everything still runs through the owner

Not an industry. A situation. The expertise is the business, the owner is the bottleneck, and AI is already in daily use without a strategy behind it.

It shows up two ways. Some owners want their time back and are drowning in content and admin. Others want the business to be worth more and depend on them less, usually because a sale is somewhere on the horizon. Same problem underneath, different presenting symptom.

The work has been done across accounting, insurance, financial planning, engineering, architecture, trades, oilfield services, chiropractic, physiotherapy and massage, and professional services. That range is experience rather than strategy. The pattern is what repeats. The industries are just where it's been seen.

"She has patiently explained and even made video tutorials for me so I could go forward confidently on my own."
Colleen Hatch

Colleen's project was a website, not an AI system. Her words are here because the way the work goes hasn't changed. You get taught, and you're left able to run it yourself.

Questions people ask

About the studio

Is Distinct Digital Marketing a marketing agency?

No. It's an AI systems studio. It began as a marketing business in 2018 and doesn't operate that way now. The work is building AI systems around how a business already runs. Visibility can be a result of that, but it isn't the product.

How big is the team?

One person. Virginia Purnell does the strategy, the builds and the client delivery. Nothing here is subcontracted out to a team that doesn't exist, and capacity gets accounted for when work is scoped.

Where are you based, and does it matter?

Sexsmith, Alberta, about twenty minutes north of Grande Prairie. The work happens over video, so location doesn't limit who gets built for. Clients are in both Canada and the United States, and all pricing is quoted in USD.

What does voice-first mean in practice?

The system gets trained on how the owner sounds before anything is built. Most automation is assembled first and given a tone afterward, which is why the output usually needs rewriting. Training the voice first means what comes back is usable rather than a draft to fix.

What's the first step?

A thirty-minute conversation over video. No deck. If there's a fit, the usual next step is the AI Opportunity Assessment, which is a paid diagnostic that produces a written roadmap you keep whether or not you build anything with us.
